Frequently Asked Questions

Pea protein powder is a plant-based protein supplement made from yellow peas. It’s a complete source of protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids.

You can use pea protein powder in different ways depending on the flavor!

  • Unflavored Pea Protein: This is perfect for adding to foods or drinks that already have flavor. Mix it into smoothies, soups, oatmeal, or even baked goods like muffins or pancakes with little to no taste change.
  • Flavored Pea Protein: This can be added to water or your favorite milk for a delicious stand-alone shake. You can also mix it into smoothies, yogurt, or even use it in baking for an extra protein boost and a great taste!

Pea protein is generally easier on the stomach compared to other protein powders like whey or soy. It’s less likely to cause bloating or discomfort, especially because it’s free from dairy and gluten. However, if you have a sensitive stomach, it’s always a good idea to start with a small amount and see how your body reacts. Most people find it gentle and easy to digest!

Our shaker bottle works by adding the powder and liquid, then shaking it vigorously. The whisk spring inside helps break up clumps and ensures a smooth, well-mixed drink.

The bottom two sections unscrew and will hold vitamins and protein!

It’s best to avoid putting hot liquids in your shaker bottle, as it may damage the plastic and cause the lid to open unexpectedly. If necessary, allow liquids to cool before shaking.

Why is there a warning on my label?

Plants naturally absorb minerals from the soil as they grow. Because pea protein is grown in the earth, it may contain trace amounts of minerals like lead. California's Proposition 65 requires a warning on products that exceed an exceptionally low threshold, even when those levels occur naturally in food and the environment.

How does this compare to Federal guidelines?

The U.S. FDA sets its own lead limits for food, called Interim Reference Levels (IRLs). The difference between these standards is significant. California requires a warning label at just 0.50 mcg. The FDA's benchmark for women of childbearing age is 8.80 mcg — more than 17 times higher than the Prop 65 threshold. The FDA also builds a 10x safety factor into these benchmarks, meaning even at the federal limit, you are still ten times away from any level of clinical concern. Our protein falls well below these federal standards.

How strict is the California limit?

The California threshold is roughly 1,000 times lower than the level where scientific studies have observed no health effects. As the state's official website explains, this "ample margin of safety" is intentional — it creates a large buffer designed for consumer awareness, not to signal that a product is unsafe.

How does this compare to a normal diet?

Many everyday healthy foods contain trace amounts of lead absorbed naturally from the soil. Based on the FDA Total Diet Study, common foods often exceed the California Prop 65 warning threshold:

Source & Daily Lead Amount (mcg)

  • FDA Benchmark (General Adults) 12.50mcg
  • FDA Benchmark (Females of Childbearing Age) 8.80mcg
  • FDA Benchmark (Children) 2.20mcg
  • Canned Peaches 1.30mcg
  • Baked Sweet Potato 1.30mcg
  • Boiled Shrimp 1.02mcg
  • Boiled Spinach 0.90mcg
  • Nutraflav Protein -3rd party tests have ranged 0.75 – 0.87mcg
  • California Prop 65 Warning Limit 0.50mcg
