Frequently Asked Questions

Pea protein powder is a plant-based protein supplement made from yellow peas. It’s a complete source of protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids.

You can use pea protein powder in different ways depending on the flavor!

  • Unflavored Pea Protein: This is perfect for adding to foods or drinks that already have flavor. Mix it into smoothies, soups, oatmeal, or even baked goods like muffins or pancakes with little to no taste change.
  • Flavored Pea Protein: This can be added to water or your favorite milk for a delicious stand-alone shake. You can also mix it into smoothies, yogurt, or even use it in baking for an extra protein boost and a great taste!

Pea protein is generally easier on the stomach compared to other protein powders like whey or soy. It’s less likely to cause bloating or discomfort, especially because it’s free from dairy and gluten. However, if you have a sensitive stomach, it’s always a good idea to start with a small amount and see how your body reacts. Most people find it gentle and easy to digest!

Our shaker bottle works by adding the powder and liquid, then shaking it vigorously. The whisk spring inside helps break up clumps and ensures a smooth, well-mixed drink.

The bottom two sections unscrew and will hold vitamins and protein!

It’s best to avoid putting hot liquids in your shaker bottle, as it may damage the plastic and cause the lid to open unexpectedly. If necessary, allow liquids to cool before shaking.

Why is there a warning on my label?

California's Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide a warning when consumers may be exposed to certain chemicals California has listed as causing cancer or reproductive harm. Lead is one of those chemicals.

Lead can occur at very low levels in the environment and in agricultural ingredients. Because pea protein comes from an agricultural crop, trace amounts may be present.

A Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean a product is unsafe or violates federal product-safety requirements.

How does this compare to FDA guidelines?

Proposition 65 and FDA guidelines serve different purposes.

California's lead Maximum Allowable Dose Level (MADL) for reproductive toxicity is 0.5 micrograms (µg) per day. The FDA's current Interim Reference Levels for dietary lead are 2.2 µg/day for children and 8.8 µg/day for females of childbearing age. The FDA states that these IRLs include a 10-fold safety factor.

These are different regulatory benchmarks and should not be interpreted as competing definitions of product safety.

Does Nutraflav test for contaminants?

Trace amounts of lead can occur in agricultural ingredients. We use independent laboratory testing to evaluate production lots for contaminants including lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury, as well as microbial factors such as E. coli, coliform, salmonella, yeast, and mold.

For example, one Nutraflav production lot tested at less than 0.03 ppm lead — which, based on a 29-gram serving, is approximately 0.87 micrograms per day. That same lot passed all tested microbial specifications.

Testing results can vary by lot, so this result does not represent every production lot.

Our Commitment

We believe consumers deserve straightforward information about the products they buy. We will continue to use independent testing and provide transparent information about our products.
