Frequently Asked Questions

Pea protein powder is a plant-based protein supplement made from yellow peas. It’s a complete source of protein, meaning it contains all nine essential amino acids.

You can use pea protein powder in different ways depending on the flavor!

  • Unflavored Pea Protein: This is perfect for adding to foods or drinks that already have flavor. Mix it into smoothies, soups, oatmeal, or even baked goods like muffins or pancakes with little to no taste change.
  • Flavored Pea Protein: This can be added to water or your favorite milk for a delicious stand-alone shake. You can also mix it into smoothies, yogurt, or even use it in baking for an extra protein boost and a great taste!

Pea protein is generally easier on the stomach compared to other protein powders like whey or soy. It’s less likely to cause bloating or discomfort, especially because it’s free from dairy and gluten. However, if you have a sensitive stomach, it’s always a good idea to start with a small amount and see how your body reacts. Most people find it gentle and easy to digest!

Our shaker bottle works by adding the powder and liquid, then shaking it vigorously. The whisk spring inside helps break up clumps and ensures a smooth, well-mixed drink.

The bottom two sections unscrew and will hold vitamins and protein!

It’s best to avoid putting hot liquids in your shaker bottle, as it may damage the plastic and cause the lid to open unexpectedly. If necessary, allow liquids to cool before shaking.

Why is there a warning on my label?

Plants naturally absorb minerals from the soil as they grow. Because pea protein is grown in the earth, it may contain trace amounts of minerals like lead. California’s Proposition 65 requires a warning on products that exceed an exceptionally low "Safe Harbor" level, even when those levels occur naturally in the environment.

How does this compare to Federal guidelines?

While California requires a warning at 0.50 micrograms, the U.S. FDA uses a benchmark called an Interim Reference Level (IRL) to monitor lead in the food supply. Our protein falls well within these federal benchmarks. According to the FDA, these levels are set with a 10x safety factor, meaning they are nearly ten times lower than the amount of intake that would be required to reach a level of clinical concern.

How strict is the California limit?

The California threshold is roughly 1,000 times lower than the level where scientific studies have actually observed no health effects. As the state’s official website explains, this "ample margin of safety" is used to create a massive buffer for consumer awareness.

How does this compare to a normal diet?

Many healthy foods contain trace amounts of minerals absorbed from the soil. Based on the FDA Total Diet Study, a standard serving of common healthy items often exceeds the California Prop 65 warning threshold:

Source & Daily Lead Amount (μg)

  • FDA Benchmark (General Adults) 12.50μg
  • FDA Benchmark (Females of Childbearing Age) 8.80μg
  • FDA Benchmark (Children) 2.20μg
  • Canned Peaches 1.30μg
  • Baked Sweet Potato 1.30μg
  • Boiled Shrimp 1.02μg
  • Boiled Spinach 0.90μg
  • Nutraflav Protein 0.75 – 0.87μg
  • California Prop 65 Warning Limit 0.50μg
